Summary: Relay is an offline-first messaging app. Your messages stay on your device and travel directly between phones via Bluetooth. We don't operate servers that see, store, or process your messages. We collect no personal data.
Relay Mesh ("Relay", "we", "us") is developed by Mindora Labs. Relay is a decentralized messaging application that enables communication between devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), without requiring internet connectivity or central servers.
| Data type | Collected? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email, phone | No | No account or registration required |
| Location | No | Relay does not request or use location data |
| Contacts / address book | No | Relay never reads your phone contacts |
| Messages | On-device only | Stored locally; never sent to any server |
| Cryptographic identity | On-device only | A key pair generated locally at first launch |
| Device identifiers | On-device only | A short node ID derived from your public key, used for BLE peer discovery |
| Token / rewards balance | On-device only | Internal ledger stored locally |
| Analytics / telemetry | No | No analytics SDKs or tracking of any kind |
Relay uses a store-carry-forward model. Messages are stored on your device and transmitted directly to nearby devices via Bluetooth Low Energy. When the intended recipient is not nearby, intermediate devices may temporarily carry the message until it reaches its destination. At no point does any message pass through a server operated by us.
Messages exchanged between peers are protected using end-to-end encryption based on the Noise Protocol Framework (XX pattern with Curve25519, ChaChaPoly, and SHA-256).
Relay requires the "Nearby Devices" permission (Bluetooth) to discover and communicate with other Relay users in proximity. Relay uses the neverForLocation flag on Bluetooth scanning, meaning Bluetooth is used exclusively for peer communication, never for location tracking.
Relay requests camera access solely to scan QR codes for adding contacts and joining groups. No photos or videos are captured, stored, or transmitted.
Relay uses a foreground service to maintain Bluetooth connectivity when the app is in the background. This allows messages to be relayed between devices even when you are not actively using the app. A persistent notification informs you when this service is active. You can pause or stop it at any time.
None. Relay does not share, sell, or transmit any user data to third parties. There are no advertising SDKs, analytics services, or external APIs integrated into Relay in offline mode.
A future version of Relay may offer an optional online mode for identity verification and rewards synchronization. This will be explicitly opt-in, clearly explained, and will never be required. If and when this feature launches, this privacy policy will be updated accordingly.
All data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling Relay removes all data, including your cryptographic identity, messages, contacts, and token balance. There is nothing to delete on our side because we never had it.
Relay is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since Relay collects no personal data from any user, there is no children's data to protect or delete.
If we update this policy, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated through the app.
